Purpose of EVA : Atmospheric physics instrument battery change and data retrieval. Candor Chasma exploration.

Narrative: EVA Crew entered the Airlock at 09:31 AM and left the station with rovers Curiosity and Perseverance at 09:36 AM. They drove to Marble Ritual and arrived at 9:41 AM. They walked in the west and arrived at the atmospheric instruments location at 9:45AM. They retrieved the data and changed the battery before going back to the rovers at 10:10 AM. They drove to Candor Chasma on Galileo road 1104 and arrived on site at 10:25 AM. They walked down to the canyon and started exploring. They came back to the rovers at 01:03 PM and drove back to the station. They arrived at 1:17 PM and entered the airlock at 1:26 PM.

Sol Summary – February 26th

Summary Title: 10 Sols, 10 experiments

Mission Status: Nominal

Sol Activity Summary: This morning, Crew Journalist and Crew Scientist, monitored by GreenHab Officer, performed an EVA at Candor Chasma. The aim was for them to find checkpoints thanks to a 2D map they drew the day before. We don’t know if they were successful for now because we must wait for the team having a 3D map to perform the EVA on Friday, so we’ll be able to compare their performances!

Meanwhile in the Hab, crew members performed experiments’ sessions and modelized in 3D a little box to hold tools to retrieve data from the atmospheric instruments during EVA, and 3D-printed it!

During the afternoon, Crew Astronomer did beautiful pictures of the Sun while other crew members tried debugging AMAIA, our AI assistant, or continued working on the mid-rotation video.

Look Ahead Plan: Tomorrow will be a day in which all crew members stay at the station, performing experiments’ sessions and continuing editing the mid-rotation video. On Sol 12 we plan to perform the second EVA of photogrammetry with the team having a 3D map at Candor Chasma.

Journalist Report – February 25th

SOL 9: Meddi, Tell Me a Story!
4:30 PM: The crew had a productive morning. Robin took his turn practicing the teleoperation of rovers using a PlayStation controller for the HUMANISE experiment. Soon, everyone on the crew will have enjoyed controlling the little robot this way. Célyan and I began testing the work done by ISAE-SUPAERO students who developed AMAIA, the CNES astronaut assistance AI. Meanwhile, Meddi did his daily visit of the micro-greens scattered throughout the station, between the Science Dome, GreenHab, and HAB, to water them. We then realized just how dry our environment is. With an average humidity in the HAB of around 20%, all living organisms in the station must contend with unusual dryness. The crew members are not exempt from this constraint; lip balm and moisturizing cream are our best friends. But the micro-greens suffer as well, and we’ve already noticed that those growing in agar-agar, a very humid substance Meddi prepared at the start of the mission, are thriving much better than those in the soil, which dries out very quickly.

6:20 PM: Today, Robin and Meddi also finished modeling 3D maps using photogrammetry software. Tonight, an experiment really begins. To compare our performances, two teams will compete in searching for beacons at Candor Chasma, a close canyon to the base. One team will use a 2D map, while the other will use the freshly modeled 3D map. Tonight, Somaya and I took notes on a 2D-created map; Meddi had prepared a small scenario to set the context for our expedition! We’ll set out tomorrow morning in search of them.

Summary Title: Meddi, tell me a story!

Sol Activity Summary: This morning, crew members started working on the mid-rotation video: music, images and editing. We work hard on it because we want it to be perfect for Sol 13! Meanwhile, sessions of other experiments such as HUMANISE, in which crew members must teleoperate a rover, took place. The 3D map and classical 2D map for the photogrammetry experiment are also ready to be used tomorrow and Friday for EVAs!

After a break, Crew started their activities again. Especially, Crew Scientist and Crew Journalist prepared their tomorrow’s EVA by taking notes with the 2D map to find checkpoints in Candor Chasma!

Look Ahead Plan: Sol 10 will be mainly centered on the EVA of photogrammetry for the 2D map team!
