The Green Hab officer began setting up Spaceseed, one of the WBA experiments. It proved much more difficult than anticipated to assemble the cabinet and soon the entire crew was eventually working on it together. We have collectively spent 10 hours working on the setup and it is still not complete. Shriya and Mackenzie tackled the main structure, Rym came in and saved the day fixing the door attachment issue, and Ricardo knocked it out of the park with the fan installation. We are completing the Spaceseed setup this evening after having some dinner. The crew, but especially the Green Hab Officer, is really excited to begin collecting data for this experiment.

Because we are pressed on time, the Microgreens experiment that was intended to start today will now be set up and begin tomorrow.

Maximum temperature (last 24h): 86F
Minimum temperature (last 24h): 50.4F
Hours of supplemental light: 0
Daily water usage for crops: 0.25 gallons (approx)
Daily water usage for research and/or other purposes: 0
Water in the Tank (160 gal useful capacity): _160____ gallons remaining (system says 160 but I used some last night and the last few days it has been at 159)
Time(s) of watering for crops: 2 hours on setting up microgreens in appropriate growth trays for MDRS experiment and Spaceseed
Changes to crops: Nothing to report
Soil Moisture Level: 9.4 (Average of five points, one on each corner and center)

Green Hab Officer completed Spaceseed setup evening of Sol 3. The structure was completed earlier in the evening and then the final technology and software was completed prior to installing the microgreens on the rockwool trays. We believe the system is properly connecting to the PIs but it did need to be unplugged and re-plugged into a new power source. From our end everything is nominal but awaiting confirmation.

The microgreens research experiment has also begun comparing vermiculite to a wet paper towel base. Broccoli, radish, mung bean, and alfalfa sprouts have all been planted and we will monitor growth over the next 8-10 days.

Water in the Tank (160 gal useful capacity): _160____ gallons remaining (system says 160 but I used some last night and the last few days it has been at 159)
Time(s) of watering for crops: 5 minutes misting the microgreen seeds for Spaceseed and MDRS microgreens
Changes to crops: Nothing to report
Soil Moisture Level: 9.4 (Average of five points, one on each corner and center)

Green Hab Officer checked on both Spaceseed and the microgreens experiments, both of which are currently in trays that are stacked and in dark locations with weight on top of them to encourage germination. Spaceseed has started to germinate evenly across the top tray but the bottom three trays germination has only begun in locations where the ridges of the tray on top does not press into the seeds as strongly.

The microgreens with moist paper towels have not started germination and have again been watered. There is some concern over the 124.5F max temperature that was reached today and the seeds not having enough water to begin germination, especially for the paper towels. The seeds with vermiculite that was soaked in water have just begun some germination but the seeds where vermiculite was moist have not.

Changes to crops: Seeds have begun to germinate and show leaves in Spaceseed and in the MDRS microgreens experiment
Soil Moisture Level: 9.4 (Average of five points, one on each corner and center)

Green Hab Officer checked on both Spaceseed and the microgreens experiments, both of which are currently in trays that are stacked and in dark locations with weight on top of them to encourage germination. Spaceseed has started to germinate evenly across the top tray with leaves starting to show but the bottom three trays germination has only begun in locations where the ridges of the tray on top does not press into the seeds as strongly.

The microgreens with moist paper towels are not germinating, I believe due to the high temperatures. They would require watering multiple times a day which has not been the case. The vermiculite trays are all germinating with leaves beginning to form. They have been covered with clear tops and places on the wood pallet in the Green Hab. The two trays that were soaked with water are showing stronger growth than the two that were moistened.

Green Hab Officer checked on both Spaceseed and the microgreens experiments, both of which have been removed from their stacks and laid flat side by side. The Spaceseed trays are within the cabinet and the vermiculite is on the wooden palette in the Green Hab. It was an exciting day as lots of green leaves have started to appear on both Spaceseed and the vermiculite trays. Green Hab Officer Mackenzie Calle misted both experiments with water and ensured both experiments are in good condition.

The Spaceseed trays are within the cabinet still covered in their black cover and the vermiculite is on the wooden palette in the Green Hab covered with a clear top. The leaves are continuing to grow on both the Spaceseed trays and the wet vermiculite trays but they are not as strong on the vermiculite trays that had less water. Water levels of all experiments are continuing to be monitored.

Green Hab Officer unfortunately arrived at the Green Hab this morning to find the Spaceseed microgreens partially wilted. They had been growing stronger every day but either too much time was allowed or a temperature fluctuation has now made them inedible.
