Purpose of EVA: Exploration and Photogrammetry experiment
The photogrammetry experiment aims to create 3D maps of the terrain around the MDRS. The quality and usefulness of the map will be assessed by other EVAs, using the map to orient themselves. This maps are created using Drone imagery, and this first EVA aims to map out a first point of interest outside of the station.

Narrative: We took 18 minutes with Curiosity and Opportunity to go to Compass Rock because we had trouble finding the entry of Galileo Road 1104. Once we were on site, we started the drone and took pictures of the site, and we decided where the checkpoint of the orienteering race will be. The goal will be to evaluate the quality and usefulness of the 3D map.
At 11:10 AM, we headed back to the station and the EVA stopped at 11:35 AM without issues.

Problems Encountered: The dome shutter didn’t open. Nothing happened when I switched on the dome shutter and maintained the "Open" position. When I arrived, the black box was on OFF so I’m pretty sure I didn’t drain the battery. And when I put the switch on the "Close" position, the dome made its moving sound for one second and stopped, as if it was working in the closing way but stopping because it is already closed. It seems as if the Open position only doesn’t work.

Summary Title: Finding our rhythm
Mission Status: Going great
Sol Activity Summary:
We all got to sleep quite early last night and got up rested, but still feeling a bit sleepy. This morning’s physical activity got us working our core and upper body, which woke us up nicely. We again made progress today, and most of our experiments are running and gathering scientific data. This morning’s EVA allowed us to start conducting the Photogrammetry experiment, and it went perfectly. Félix is making great progress with the set up of his botanic experiment, the Supaeromoon rover is printing slowly but surely and Julien got the time to work on his research paper for the SSEA in Munich.
Only the observatory got in our way today, as the dome refused to open all day.
The planning was meant to be lighter to day, and we followed it quite nicely, even taking the time for a little nap in the beginning of the afternoon.
Look Ahead Plan:
We are beginning the hardest part of our mission, and are getting prepared to ride it smoothly with the least difficulties possible. The rest of this week’s EVA will be dedicated to maintaining the atmospheric experiments, exploring and conducting the rest of the Photogrammetry experiment.
Anomalies in work:
– Issues with EVA radios headsets (not yet troubleshot, but healthy radios sets have been identified)
– Issue with the Musk Observatory Dome.
